Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society

Welcome to Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society (KHS)

... and congratulations on finding us.

This is a society which was first recorded in August 1842 when the Glasgow Saturday Post reported on it's second meeting/exhibition of the season at the Black Bull Inn, Kirkintilloch.  There were usually three shows a year. It had probably been in existence before then but evidence has been hard to find.  In the years since, it has been supporting floriculture and horticulture in various shapes and forms - it was defunct for a few years in the 19th century but resuscitated and carried on. Its purpose in 1842 was defined as 'to encourage horticulture in the local area'.  It probably morphed into the society we know today with monthly lectures/speakers, outings and a single flower show from about 1930 onwards.
