Committee meeting 2/11 - update

Added at 19:29 on 04 November 2022

The committee of KHS met on Monday evening and I have the following to report/update you.

We have a speaker for our next meeting in Enterprise House on Thursday 17 November 2022 at 7.30pm and she will present on Scottish and Siberian plants, herbal uses and benefits and some information on permaculture gardening.  Please try to come along if you are able, it’s so much more satisfying to have a good turnout when we have a speaker.  At the last presentation by a speaker we had only 11 members turn up which was poor.

Isabel proposes, shortly, to circulate 20 of the best photographs from the slideshow shown at the AFS for members to vote their favourites for inclusion in a 2023 Calendar.  So look out for this and also, to gauge interest would you let me or Isabel know if you are interested in buying a calendar, please?

On Thursday 15th December 2022 – we will have a Christmas Social with mince pies and mulled wine, a short quiz and a Secret Santa.  If you wish to take part in the Secret Santa, gifts should cost no more than £10 and be gift wrapped.  A table will be set aside in the room for gifts to be placed and each person putting in a gift will receive a raffle ticket. These will be drawn allowing winning tickets to have their choice of the presents on display.

Sick Plant Clinic : While gifts are being placed anyone who has a problem plant is welcome to bring it along and our resident experts will give advice on remedying problems.

We have decided not to hold a meeting in January 2023 so the following month will be our Annual Dinner and it is proposed that we book again for the Broadcroft Hotel on Thursday 23 February 2023.  Would you please reply to this email advising if you are interested in attending the dinner to enable us to gauge numbers and make a provisional booking with the hotel?  More details to follow when we have a menu.

We will update on the programme for the rest of the year in due course.

Meantime, for those of you who like to read the SGF newsletter, the Autumn edition is up on the Members only area of their website and can be accessed using the password, GardeningScots2020.  There are a number of very good articles – including one by our very own Isabel Hatcher – so it is well worth reading.  The recurring theme for most Societies is how their activities have been pared down following Covid, however there is a lot of hope out there too that Societies can recruit new members and return to more normal meetings, shows and events.

And finally, Lenzie Community Development Trust continue to seek volunteers to help out in the Myrtle Avenue garden - details in a previous News post.

Take care everyone and we hope we will see as many of you as possible on 17 November 2022.
