Added at 10:51 on 15 June 2026

Minutes of Committee meeting of Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society held on 26th March 2026

Apologies were received from Andrew Lothian and Isabel Hatcher.

Minutes of Last meeting : Proposed by Wendy Bryson and seconded by Robert Hatcher.

President’s Report : Paul reported that J. Bickerson has agreed again to judge the Domestic section at the annual show. Paul hasn’t been able, so far, to get in touch with T. Findlay who judged the Horticultural sections last year.. Paul advised the committee that he is expecting his 2nd knee replacement soon and is presently waiting on a date for his operation.

Treasurer’s Report : Robert reported the bank balance and the and the cash in hand.

Social Secretary’s Report : Wendy reported that the recent annual dinner had been an enjoyable occasion and Wendy was pleased with the service from the Broadcroft Hotel. Wendy stated that having name cards on the table had helped greatly on the evening.
Wendy stated that the Spring outing will be to Glenarn  garden, near Helensburgh, on Saturday 9th May (self drive). The owners will give us a guided tour with tea and home baking afterwards.
The summer outing will be to Scone Palace, near Perth, on Wednesday 19th August and Wendy will book a bus, depending on numbers. It is hoped that we will see the dahlias, planted by the Scottish Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Society in full bloom at that time of year.

Press Secretary’s Report : Margaret continues to send reports to the Kirkintilloch Herald and had no problems to report.

Speakers’ Secretary’s Report : Adam stated that Fiona Leishman will speak about flower arranging at our April meeting. Adam outlined his plans for next session. Arrangements have been made up to and including next February and Adam is trying to finalise another couple of speakers.

Web Secretary’s Report : In Isabel’s absence Robert stated that that there had been 84 followers on our Facebook page though there were no comments made. The Facebook page is more popular than the web page.

Annual Flower Show : Adam is preparing the schedules and these will be available at the Annual General Meeting in May. There is no more news about the hall but whatever happens will not have any bearing on this year’s show. The committee agreed that we will definitely have a tea room again this year,

11. AOB : Bob suggested starting a seed library. This will involve members members bringing and swopping seed. Bob and Alan will store surplus seed and all seed should be labelled. Due to omission from Paul this has yet to be discussed with our members.
All members of the committee agreed to stand for re election at the AGM in May.

The meeting ended at 8.50pm. The next meeting will take place on Thursday 18th June , 7.30pm
