Notes of Committee meeting of Kirkintilloch Horticultural Society held on 9th April 2025 at 7.30pm
1 : Present : A.Lothian, R. Hatcher, I. Hatcher, W. Bryson, A. Bryson, M. Gibb, R. Sherlock, P. Malcolm
2 : Apologies : A. Carswell
3 : Minutes : There were no minutes as the last meeting was a one item meeting to discuss the schedule for the Annual Flower Show. Following the meeting Paul typed up a schedule which was sent to Adam who worked on it in order that it would come out properly in paper.
4 : President’s Report : Paul reported that it was good that our 6 new members who joined in October have been attending our meetings regularly. A further new member joined in March. Paul has been unable to find a horticultural judge for the annual show. Jean Bickerton has again agreed to judge the Domestic Section.
5 : Treasurer’s Report : Robert reported the current bank balance and cash in hand. A small profit was made from the annual meal. Robert stated that he is now moving towards internet banking as cheques now incur a charge.
6 : Press Officer’s Report : Margaret reported that she is sending material to the Kirkintilloch Herald next week.
7. : Social Secretary’s Report : Wendy reported that the Spring outing will be to Geilston Garden on 15th May and our summer outing will be to Pitlochy Garden, Fife on Monday 14th July.
8. : Speakers’ Secretary’s Report : Adam is working on arranging speakers for next session.
9. : Web Admin Report. : Isabel expressed her disappointment at the low number of views to the website recently. Is a change of format required ? Isabel encouraged committee members to send news items to her. It was hoped that views will increase as we get nearer to the annual show.
10 : Annual Flower Show : Paul will continue to search for a judge. The draft version of the schedule is now ready. Members of the committee to study it and report anything which is not correct . The aim is to have copies of the schedule available at the AGM. Paul has booked the Hall. We all agreed that we need more help setting up and clearing away after the show has finished.
Annual General Meeting : This will be held on Thursday 8th May. All members of the committee are willing to stand for re election. It was proposed that no change is made to the subscription fee when this is discussed at the AGM.
AOB : Adam mentioned contacting the BBC regarding Garden Question Time in Kirkintilloch and he will look further into this..
The meeting ended at 9.45pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th June 2025.
